Rules When Getting Links
"Ugh! There are rules with links?" Yes, and you may have found out after the fact that all the links you were getting did very little good with PageRank. When you get links, you should make sure of the following:
- You have a good mix between relevant sites and high page rank sites
- They are anchor text links (should feed off of your key phrase)
- They are FOLLOWED links (most websites are no-follow meaning if you start clicking your heels because you got a link from a site, chances are they are no-follow....and your PR and/or value gains nothing.)
- They should be one way
- The page that your link resides on actually HAS PR. Many claim to get high PR links but upon closer inspection, you will see ONLY the home page of the site has a high PR...the rest of the pages have a PR of 0. This does very little...it's the PR on the page where you link resides which beefs up your PR and thus your ranking.
- You must constantly keep updating your links. The internet is a dynamic place...things are dropped and added all the time.
